Fellow what hifi readers I'm in need of some advice again, I recently sent my pioneer bdp lx55 to ictv southern for inspection as it become faulty and was out of warranty, although only 18months old and I have now just had a phone call to tell me that it's will cost me just over 500 pound for my player to be fixed and returned, as you can imagined I was shocked to hear this as you can buy that player for 249 at Sevenoaks, ictv say that pioneer are charging them 330+vat for parts that's why so expensive.

my question to all is, is the pioneer still worth rebuying or is there a better or more worthwhile purchase out there! the sony s790 is one option although I've just read that a new player has just been released by sony, the marantz ud7007 is and would be my next step up in quality but the price tag just before Xmas isn't an option, would be glad of some advice

Oppo 103 is the one I choose after seeing the best of the current crop. Try David at Frank Harvey for a forum discount. ;)

That is ridiculous - but I am not surprised in one way - it ensures you buy another player which is what they want. I don't see what can cost anything like £500 - a Blu ray Drive nope - power supply nope, main pcb nope.... that is pretty poor from them. Very unlucky to go bad after 18 - months depending on how much its been used/ abused but still not very good. The 7007 is a step up if you have the system to notice it - everything you love about the 55 and more - with none of the stuff you hate about it - that's what I found

If you dont need wifi and want a cheap player until you can afford the 7007 this is a bargain at the minute - 5 star budget player

Thanks for some speedy replies, I have been in email contact with pioneer most of the afternoon and according to them the player is covered for 2years because it was purchased from Sevenoaks and they are category one dealership to them, but a report has to be sent to pioneer and they decide whether to repair or replace.
So I will be continuing to use ps3 for now until either they replace the pioneer or ps4 is delivered which is the other reason I couldn't afford the marantz blueray this side of Xmas hehe.
answer to big boss my system consist of pioneer lx55 amp with the n50 network player,ps3, sky hd 1tb, Samsung 3dtv the first one they released and the recently purchased VPL-hw50es and of course the damaged lx55 player alongside an ipad 3 for control

With all due respect I think the 7007 is overkill in that system. I would get the new LX55 they are most likely to send you.

All the best
