Hi,

ive been offered an Pioneer VSX in excellent nick for 200 pounds, i know the seller and he is very trustworthy. It has been his reciever for 9 months or so and has looked after it, he is now looking to upgrade.

i just wondered if it was worth it to go for this model at the that price? will it last me 5 years say?? i was in the market for a new onkyo or something similar but this reciever looks like it has all the specs i need. Sure the 2 hdmi ports are a little annoying but i should be fine, i think.

Im having trouble finding any reviews in english, so ive come here for advice. basically can anyone recommend it to me?

Please help!

thx

Jonny

Pioneer had been a best AV Receiver brand in 2002. This LX50 is newer. Hopefully someone will help you.

thx for reply. Im hearing good things about amp and also a few negatives. Obviousley only 2 hdmi and no upscaling. Its a bit annoying as i have a wii via component which would have been nice to upscale.

ÿ

I think for 200 pounds its quite a good deal. I was just hoping people who had one, if any would give some advice.

ÿ

Thanx for reply tho. I have a 360 and a ps3 so thats my hdmi's gone straight away.

ÿ

t does 1080p 24 fps by the looks of it so hopefully it should be future proof.ÿ

I considered this amp too a little while ago but was put off by the price, especially when comparing it to the Onkyo 605 which offered similar features at nearly half the cost. However, at £200 it looks an absolute steal and I'd grab it with both hands if it all looks legit. Even if you didn't decide to keep it for more than a couple of years, you'd more than likely make most of your money back if you decided to sell it on.

i have 2 hdmi sources at minute. 360 and ps3, but i might upgrade, thing is my tv is an oooold sammy 32 inch 1080i its got one hdmi in.

ÿ

i will be upgrading it within the next ear to either a 42 plasma or 40-46 inch 1080p hd tv lcd. If i get a 24 fps tv will it have upscaling etc?? i will ÿdefo be making sure i get a pretty good tv something on the level of what the ew bravia w4000 is? is that it?

ÿ

what would you advize? i suppose if i get something with 3 hdmi's in i can run say sky hd to that and optical to the reciever??

ÿ

thx again for helpÿ

What size room do you have and what speakers have you got also buget.Pioneer got a good review at £600 now selling for £400 so £200 is a good deal you could use this now until youve made up your mind about sky hd. Then when your ready to but a new tv make a list of new requirements get a new tv first see how many hdmi sockets it has and decide if you want all your inputs to go through your reciever if so look for one with 4 Hdmi sockets by then there will be lots of amps to choose from as all leading companies plan on releasing new products to the run up to Christmas might be bargains early next year. Thats what i would do you may even fancy a new blu ray player as well.

my room is small to medium size im about 3.5 metres from tv and have q acoustics 1020 for fronts 1010 for back and 1000 for centre speaker. I dont really want to upgrade the av reciever for a few years so hopefull this will last me. I will defo get a tv with a few hdmi's so i can run 360 direct to tv maybe and use optical for sound or something else to that extent. what do you think?ÿ

I think you'll be fine. The PS3 is the only source you have that actually needs to go into the amp via HDMI in order to get HD audio. Once you get a new tv you won't have a problem with a shortage of HDMI connections as most new tvs come with at least three. All tvs do their own scaling (otherwise SD images would be in a box in the corner). The quality varies from tv to tv but, most likely, if you were to spend money on a really good set, like the W4000 you mention, the scaling would most likely be pretty decent for SD sources. Picturewise, you wouldn't need the amp for Sky HD or for your Xbox. You'd just run opticals to the amp to handle the audio with the tv handling the picture.
