Thinking of getting a blu player to replaced my PS3 for blu ray duties. I have narrowed it down to the Pioneer BDP51 or BDP320. The BPD320 retails at about £100 more. Is it worth the extra £100.

yeah, i had exactly the same question. What am i getting for the extra money and is it really worth it. Seen the 51 as low as £180 new, big price difference. I know the 320 won the what hi-fi super test but is there that much difference?

I'm assuming (and hopefully someone can confirm) that both these blu ray players will give me the choice of decoding audio onboard or via my amp. I would also assume the same is try for up-scaling video. Would be nice to have flexibility on the video but would certainly want amp doing the audio decoding.

Also, blu ray live is not that important, and worst case i have a PS3 and can use that to access any content. Any comments welcome!

With the latest firmware update the 51 can decode all the HD sound formats. Where did you see it for £180

a reseller on ebay, was new and boxed.

I'm tempted as not sure the 320 is that big a step change and the 51 is priced very well now. As mentioned, main concern is that i can pass raw audio to amp to decode (assuming can do via HDMI)

Both compared here, side by side (from the Pioneer website)
