Ok ok ok, I've got some spare cash around, and my friend (a hifi distributor) can deliver the LX-52 at a good price at 330quid (much less than retail where I am). Should I take the plunge or not?

Definitely not imo, that is well expensive too.

It is a fair wad of cash I know but:

1. I'm looking for a real step up from my Sony 370 for PQ.

2. Mid-range Blu-ray players are very hard/expensive to get where I am. (for eg. we only get the Sony 370, 470 and top-dog 5000ES. Panasonics are not available at all.

3. I am getting a sizable discount on the LX-52.

Alternatively, I could ask him for the new Denon DBP-1611UD (JD and chebby would roll in horror).

Might not be, it's a couple of years old now I think.

It's not that cheap, see my previous link, Sevenoaks are doing it for £249.

Not really sure what to advice here, could you possibly demo before buying? and compare the two yourself? If it was me i would stick with the Sony. For £300 up, i personally would be looking for some decent sound in it too. Picture wise - i would go with the Sony me.

I use the Pioneer BDP-LX52 at home, and while it's a great player (you should note slight picture and especially sonic benefits over the Sony), it's starting to show its age now - discs take an age to load, and (of course) it has none of the frills of the newer players.

Personally I plan an upgrade this year - and with £300 to play with i'd be looking at a 2011 model. We've got a Group Test of 2011 players in our new issue - being posted out to subscribers today; in shops by Tuesday... Oh, and hopefully available to download as a digital edition next week, too!

Yep - May issue went on sale 11th April; June issue goes on sale 10th May 🙂

All those Bank Holidays sure speed things up....

Why, thank you Clare, keenly wait for the digital edition.
