Am in the market to purchase a decent Blu ray player and wanted to know thoughts and views from forum members on these two blu ray players.

All inputs are welcomed.

Hi,

These were the two players I considered, a few weeks ago, and I went for the Pioneer 51 two weeks ago. I'm very pleased with the player so far.

I saw both in sevenoaks connected to my tv. I can honestly say I would have been happy with either. I went for the pioneer over the denon because I prefer the design and build of the product, but in my opinion, they are both very good with blu ray and dvd.

Is there any way you can get a demo, maybe at richersounds? They're both £300 instore.

Only downside is loading times for blu ray discs. Sin city took about 5 minutes to load, others are better though, and dvds aren't a problem.

You could also wait for the new pioneer 320 if you're more patient than me. It's supposed to be as good as the 51, but with profile 2.0 for bd-live (which I don't care about) and online updates (very useful). There are some customer reviews on Amazon.com (US Version) on this player.

Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to ask.

The Pioneer is pretty slow to load, although picture and sound quality are excellent.

If you go for that, make sure you download the latest software update from Pioneer's website (I don't know if the same applies to the Denon).

Hi electroman,

Have you ever updated the firmware on your pioneer 51? What improvements, if any, did you notice?

I tried updating mine yesterday, but had no luck. I downloaded 'CD BurnerXP' software, and the BDP_LX7108 file from pioneer's support page, then recorded it on a cd-rw disc and put the thing in the player, and it read 'DATA_DISC' and nothing happened. I checked the files on the cd and it only had one. Am I missing something, like software to open the zip file on my computer?

Any tips would be great.

Thanks

This happened too me twice , make sure you are burning as a image file. I was but I think that the error may of been caused when unzipping the file. also is cd rw discs supported? if so make sure that they are completely blank before you start

How do you burn as an image? I don't have any zip/unzip software i don't think. cd-rw is supported i think, and the cd was brand new when i recorded. I'm slightly confused. Thinking there may be something in the whole profile 2.0 business after all! It's not quite as easy as I thought to update the thing. In any case, I'll contact pioneer tomorrow if I'm still having trouble.
