Pioneer A-A6-J /mordaunt short 906i

I am thinking to buy the pioneer A-A6-J and match it with the 906i speakers.

What do you think of this combination?

Is Pioneer a better amplifier than my marantz pm-7200?

These five stars will cost me...

The 7200 can easily be bettered but it'll probably cost more than the pioneer. I say probably because I have'nt heard the latter so reserve judgement on that but I think the 7200 was the weakest link in Marantz'es portfolio in the last few years. A 7100KI would, imo, be a big step up but personally I'd go for the 1500pma from Denon for a little bit more or Myryads Z140 as a lower power but equally refined and detailed alternative.

Either one would benefit from better speakers, so if you own those 906's already, perhaps try and audition some Epos, Rega or Usher's and upgrade when funds allow.

Haven't heard either the amp or the speakers, but reports state they're both forward sounding. Paired up this may be a combo that's too bright for you.
