Hi all,
Only just joined as I regularly look through these forums and could do with some real world advice at last!
I'm really keen on getting the Rega P3-24 and we've got a few options of what to put with it ie phono stage and cart. My set up as is: Rotal RA-971 int amp, RCD-951 and B&W 602 S2's...all of which I really love so please no suggestions on upgrading any of that lot. I find theh current sound rich and warm and full of detail and never get tired of listening to it after 10 years of owning it.
Options wise here we go. The guys in the shop suggested I compare the Elys2 with the Rega Fono Mini and then the Bias2 with the more expensive Rega Fono (to keep costs down a bit). This sounds a good idea. When we did a comparison solely between the carts there was no doubt that the Elys2 came out more definined and detailed and just more involving - god knows what kind of high end phono stage and amp they had it hooked up to though!
The main thing I'm after is detail and clarity without it spillig over into harshness or being too clinical. The Cambridge Audio 540/640p always seem to get good write ups as well but when I mentioned this the salesmen suggested I'd definitely be better off with the Rega stuff.
Also, in everyone's opinion, and at the price range I'm looking at, how mych difference does the phono stage make?
Looking forward to everyone's replies....!
