Hi everyone
Hi purchased my 42pfl9664 back in November, so it was about 5 months ago. I got it from Richersounds in Belfast (Northern Ireland, UK) and got a free philips 5 year warranty with it. I would have been very happy with it for the whole 5 months if it wasn't for one small (but big in my eyes) problem. This problem I think is called horizontal banding but I could be wrong so if you guys can correct me that would be very helpful
Let me explain. The problem is that there light horizontal lines going all the way up my screen (which appear the same colour as the picture image currently on the screen) about a few cm thick with about a cm spacing between them. They are not noticeable all the time, but whenever the is a dull image currently being shown on screen or whenever there is a large amount of the same colour on screen (e.g. The big blue sky and balloons in the UP blue ray film) it stands out like a sore thumb , and spoils my viewing experience very often: especally now as I can't stop looking out for it. There seems to be a section of my 9664 TV screen near the top, circular in shape that does not show the horizontal lines but the rest of it is easily visible for me atleast. It sorta of looks like this :
----- -----------
---- -------
---------------------------
---------------------------
There are more lines on my screen than in this image above and the spacing between them is only a about a cm or 2 but this image just serves to highlight what I mean when I say a section of my TV seems unaffected by the horizontal lines
I didn't start noticing this problem until a month a so after I bought the TV probably because I didn't get a chance to use it very often initially, or the problem just appeared after a couple of months of use - Im not sure. Iv been trying to live with it but it just annoys me many times especially whenever your watching HD and then you see these faint horizontal lines show up.
My quesiton is do I have a right to get this problem repaired as my TV aint broke but it has this big line/band problem, and it is 5 months old?
Do I have to ring Richer Sounds to get it repaired or some how get in contact with Philips?
My big concern is that it will take a long time and cause a lot of hassle. What I mean by this is that if I try to get it repaired will I have to wait a long time and be without a TV for ages?;
Also Im concerned that Richersounds/Philips will try to undermine the problem as not an big issue so therefore won't fix it. Im not sure if this problem is common or if people have it and think nothing of it on most occasions. All I know is that Iv never seen this issue before and it sadly bothers me to a good extent. Should I be concerned with this issue?
I would greatly appreciate any advice because Iv never had to do anything like this before and I don't know what to expect. Thanks
