Hi, I already own several pairs of headphones, all closed. My best ones are B&W P7's, and have decided that I would like an open headset. Budget is max £200, and I am considering Philips Fidelio X1 or Grado SR125i. I listen to dance music and alternative rock/indie in the main. I would appreciaste people's views on which are the best set for home listening. Thanks in advance.

The Beyer DT880 is £208, but there are many good reasons to buy it. Check out Quadpatch's review at NobleHifi.

Thank you, I will. Would still appreciate an opinion on X1 vs Sr125i though, as my next purchase will prob be last for sometime, as already own 6 sets. Thanks again.

I would definitely get the X1, as a warmer, smoother sound with great detail and fidelity. To match the X1, the SR325 would be nearly as good, and the PS500 would be slightly better. But you pay a real premium for the better Grados.

Thanks for the mention Dale, as always. I do like the DT880 as it feels really neutral and pretty damn detailed for the price, kinda like a poor mans HD800, but that puts it quite a bean leaner than the P7, so it depends if that sounds like a good idea or not. I've still yet to hear the X1 and I really must, I've heard lots of really good things.

Dale: I know the X1 is quite a bit cheaper, but do you think the X1 stands up to this level of interestngness?

I had the L1 which was well made and my only ding was too much upper bass. I'm sure the 880 would have better fidelity than the X1, but with just the simplest upper bass EQ you could get 95 percent of the 880 fidelity with the X1 at the lower price, which I think is something worth considering, even at the risk the user would eventually get pulled into the bass-addict melange and later realize the mistake. Personally, from what I've learned with the T51p, I'd sell someone a Beyer Tesla T90 and a custom Eq and tell them "listen to this for 2 weeks and then decide if you want something else" - the detail and resolution, even with the EQ smoothing would be so impressive that I think the sale would hold.

Thanks for the replies. I took the plunge and went for the X1 at £151, and will let you know what I think of it after I've had it a while. Don't expect a review that will remotely match some of the great reviews that you guys post on here though :)
