People always advise you to check for yourself before making any decisions. When testing in store take a few films on blu-ray and dvd as reference material, test the SD/HD and 3D and try and compare with other TV's.

If you are testing the 3D take along a 3d Blu-ray rather than relying solely on the material provided by the store as their material will be filmed in 3d rather than 'rendered' after the event, which again provides a better experience and can give you a false impression that everything you watch in 3d will be as convincing.

My opinion.

I bought the 46 pfl9705 and returned it as I found it to be terrible with 3d. That said, my set was one of a batch that was identified by Philips as faulty. However, I am not convinced they have improved so much to make it one of the better 3d TV's to buy. Check out the December edition of WHF as they conducted an extensive review of 3d TVs.

I have a 3d TV and have watched half of one film in three months! I found it to be an interesting experience but it didn't enthral me to the point that I want to watch everything in 3d - even if I did there is still very little decent material available (although I am waiting for Avatar 3d to be widely available to buy).

There is also the advice about screen size and/or viewing distance for a 3d compared to 2d. It helps for the effect of 3d if the screen occupies as much of your field of vision as possible, therefore many advise to buy the biggest screen available to your room. Alternatively you can move a little closer to the screen but have to consider clarity and the general physics of being sat right in front of a tv, craning your neck and having to move a chair to sit on every time you want to watch something!

Finally, 3d is still in its infancy. In the next couple of months there will be announcements from manufacturers on their line up for 2011. Although they won't be readily available until later in the year, my advice would be to wait and see how the market pans out this year with this new technology for the home.
