Urgent help required.

I was thinking of investing £600 on a full HD LCD TV as a Xmas present for myself.

Will mainly be used by my 2 year old watching CBB's and Disney DVDs and I may get to watch the occassional football match.

I have just logged onto M&S wesite and they have a Philips 42 PFL7404 as their "Deal of the Day" for £599, with free delvery, free set up and 5 year guarantee!

Is this too good a deal to miss or should I invest the credit card companies £600 on another model?

Need to decide asap, and no very little (make that nothing about LCD TV's) so any help would be greatly appreciatetd.

Thanks

Pete

If the deal's genuine, then it sounds like a no brainer to me. For £600 this is truly exceptional value. It's not a match for the 9664 -- the current WHF team favourite -- but it's still an extremely good TV. Bags of detail. Decent black levels. May take some tweaking to get the very best out of it. If the deal's only on offer for one day, then I would snap one up pronto...

I was in M&S this morning and saw this tv and looked at it for about 10 minutes.

I did like it, for the money you mention it is a really good deal. It is not that big either for a 42 inch. It's mainly all screen with just a thin black edge around the outside.

I'm really tempted by this.

I'm looking to get a 42" ish TV to replace a 36" CRT, and then look at a projector in a while for the big screen experience.

Was going to do a bit of demoing but this was one of the sets I was going to demo, it has good reviews and the cheapest I've seen it so far is about £764 I think.

Still not totally sold on whether these new sets are better than the best old CRTs with SD though

I actually was one of the lucky people to snap up this deal at M&S. At the checkout there was a further 20quid knocked off so got it for £580!!! and with a 5-yr gaurantee I'm very happy indeed and cannot wait for it to arrive!!

Will do gel, although I dont recieve it unitll a couple of weeks time but to be honest, for the price I paid, I dont mind waiting. I cant imagine I'm going to be disapointed with the picture, again considering how much I paid for it and the fact I've been watching on a 26inch Samsung for the past 3 years.

hey t shaw congrats on your bargain purchase this tv is very good in my imo.

i did alot of research and comparing with different makes of tv and to me i felt that the philips looked the best in my eyes.

the only thing i regret is not waiting as these tvs are going for dirt cheap right now and at the time that i got mine which is the 47 inch version it was £1300 it can now be had for £999 and the 42 inch for even cheaper as you already know.

you won't be dissapointed it is a very capable tv sharp motion vibrant colours and an overall good picture i hope this makes you feel abit more reassured with your purchase and once again congrats.
