Hi, I use my PC connected to an AV amp to play downloaded media, videos, music etc.

Would upgrading the mains cable make any difference to the sound and video quality and if so, what cable should I go for?

Also, I've looked at the QED J2P cables and the options of DAC's. Again any recommendations?

Hi. I found that a Tacima plug in mains conditioner, not the mains extension, helped to reduce noise from my PCs mains. But the Tacima extension gets excellent reports, less so when used with an amp. As for mains cables, well search the forum and you will find loads of suggestions.

As for a phono to jack to connect a PC to an amp versus a DAC, the DAC wins......unless you have a very good amp with a DAC in it, which may be the case with your AV amp anyway. So a new DAC could just be a sideways move.

i wouldn't even consider putting an expensive mains lead on a pc.

but then again, the only thing i would put one on, is the shelf i'd just picked it up from.

i've tried a few now, they don't make the teeniest, tiniest difference in my system.

As above, don't waste your money on a mains cable upgrade. Only advice I would give is use digital connection over analogue if possible.

Thanks, it's currently plugged into a Tacima Conditioner anyway so I assume it'll be ok. I'll be getting a Chord cable with my new What Hifi subscription so I was wondering if this would be the best place to use it. May stick on the TV instead as this also uses a 3 Pin IEC connector.

As for PC I don't think it has an SPDIF built in so am just running analogue for now, however it's due for an upgrade so I may investigate DAC's when it's done.

Always worth using a decent cable on especially on a source.
