Parents going from Sky+ to Sky HD. Is there anything out of the ordinary I should know?

As the title says. My parents are replacing their Sky+ with Sky HD. I told them not to pay the £60 set-up fee as I can do it for them.

I'm guessing that other than an HDMI cable, It should just be a case of swapping connections from one box to the other, right?

At present they're using my old Sony DAV-S550 HCIAB but it's on its last legs, so are probably gonna get a newer BDV-E380 fairly soon.

Anything else I need to know? Not having Sky myself I'm slightly in the dark.

Hi Big Chris,

This part I am not 100% sure whether you will need to do this or not.

I recently purchased a new box not through Sky and had to enter the installer menu to set the box up.

I can post the process if allowed.

This part is a must - you have to pair the Sky card with the new box, you can try the installation menu or ring Sky and they will complete this over the phone.

I have all the details in a word document if you want it, ask the mods to pass on your email address and i will send it to you.

worked for me apart from the auto pairing, this can be hit and miss.

You need an optical cable for dolby digital and depending on their tv try setting the output resolution to auto to see if it improves SD picture quality.
