Hi all, relative newbie here!
I've just recently bought a house for myself, and one of the criteria was that it had to have a living room that would be well designed for a flatscreen TV. By this I meant there had to be one complete wall suitable for wall-mounting. In the end there were two! One is french doors leading to the dining room and the opposite is windows to the front aspect. This leaves two walls facing each other completely unspoilt. No fireplace to worry about either!
Anyway, I decided as a house-warming present to myself (!), I would get myself a nice large flatscreen TV. The usual suspects will be connected - Sky HD, PS3 and eventually the HTPC as well.
My research has dictated to me I should go for Plasma TVs, in particular the Pioneer Kuro and the Panasonic Viera, as LCDs are not ready for the big-time in the larger sizes. I am relucant to give myself a budget, after all it's a present for me!
Another factor was speakers. Because I am profoundly deaf, I won't be able to hear the difference between a high-quality system and an top-quality system, so there is no point spending extra bucks in this department. (I can certainly tell the difference between good and bad though!) However, I do like it reasonably loud (sorry new neighbours!). Preferably one with an iPod dock.
So I decided to have same-manufacturer solution. The upcoming Panasonic SC-PT960 (I don't think I would benefit from SC-BT100?) is looking good, and the 'Viera Link' would mean one less remote control and everything kept simple - the thought of pressing one button to switch from TV speaker to external speaker is great. So Panasonic's 'Viera Link' is quite appealing, their video demo is very good.
I'm not sure if Pioneer has an equivalent. Maybe it's the LX01?
This has lead me to take a good look at the Panasonic series, and it's a little bit cheaper than Pioneer.
I decided to go for the Pannys, in particular the upcoming PZ850. However somewhere deep in the forum, I remember reading one of Clare's posts that the 58in or the 65in is yet to be announced for release in the UK or at least words to that effect, as Panasonic have effectively said the 50in PZ850 will see the light of day in the summer. (Apologies if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me)
So I'm wondering if anyone knows if the TH58PZ850 or the TH65PZ850 will ever be released here. If not, I might as well go for last year's models on the cheap and save up and maybe wait until 2009?
Whatever happens, I know I will get a lot of joy out of whatever I decide to get, my current 26in HD LCD is great, but want to put that in the bedroom instead!
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
