Similar. Unless you're vanman.

Probably about 50,000+ hours for a plasma to dim to half-brightness, which is well over 25 years of normal use.

LCDs about the same, and when they do fail it's most likely to be the backlight tubes, which can be replaced.

LOL! Did vanman really try to clean the insides of his TV?

Anyway, I don't think many people will keep their TV sets until the 25 year end of life . . . we'll all be watching 3D projected images by then as in "Minority Report".

[/quote]I thought the latest panasonics were rated at 100,000 hours to half-brightness?

Yeh Pany quotes 100,000 hours to half brightness. I wouldn't mind betting that in 5-10 years the technology from today will be old hat. Even a few years back all that was available for sensible money was a decent crt tv. I paid almost £1200 for my 32" Pany quintrix with pro logic 7 ish years ago. Back then it was top of the range. Mind you it was a huge improvement from my exrental 20" wood panel tv with teletext. I did get £150 knocked off the price by trading in the barely working 20".

Today I have a 42" PZ85 Pany plasma with 1080P resolution, digital tuner and sound, hdmi connections etc etc. For similar money as my crt.

So I wouldn't worry about screen life, in most case's todays sets have a longer life span than yesteryears crt's. And you will no doubt be replacing it well before then with somthing "decent".

And you thought correctly. So that's even better. Make it 50 years then...

I have found that nothing beats the cleaning power of Cillit Bang.....

Quick poll... who is more annoying, Vanman or Barry Scott? Answers to be written on the back of a Pioneer with a sandblaster and sent to your local recycle centre.

I liked the pish take that Peter Stefanowicz did of the Cillit Bang Ad - Kitchen Gun, for all your cleaning needs. I think the sketch is up on you tube or the BBC home page somewhere.
