Hi,

In spite of whathifi's 4 star review, this tv is still at the top of my list. I have seen the tv in John Lewis with their display disc, and they put on a normal dvd as well.

Could someone who owns this tv and has had a bit more time to play with it, try different sources (virgin, sky, ps3, xbox, dvd, bluray) and experience it outside a shop environment, share their views on how it performs.

Also, if there is anybody who works with tvs regularly and has seen it in action, more than just briefly, could comment that would be great.

I'd appreciate it if you could also mention any drawbacks you've noticed - I read a post on here saying that the picture flickered etc which is quite worrying on a tv of this price.

Thanks

Hi hmtb, first of all no drawbacks at all,I have mine set up to sky+ at moment and the picture is the best i have seen on any tv.
I have my blueray veiwing is through ps3 and it is fantistic and game play is taken to another level compared to my samsaung(non 1080p tv).
Basically i would recommend this tv to anyone even someone thinking abought getting a pioneer.

Just received my 42v10 and it looks every bit as good as when I viewed in a panasonic shop.

I bought from amazon for £1218 (I think) which I thought was a pretty good deal.

I had an issue with my BD30 blu ray via my onkyo 606 as I could now set it to 1080p and 24p as this TV supports this.
So nothing really to do with the TV as direct to the TV the blu ray worked fine.

While on the phone to sevenoaks hifi, who sold me the bd30 and onkyo six months ago, to resolve the issue they said they could have supplied my the TV with a 5 year warranty for £1230, with the delivery that I paid amazon that is only a difference of £5 plus a 5 year warranty! I never thought they could go so close to an internet price.
They sorted out my onkyo issue to.

So far very happy with the v10, although the whites do tend to be a bit blue at the moment.

Edit**
Thought I would add the Sky+HD looks even better now than it did on my 720p panel.
There is an extra depth to the Sky+HD HD picture that gives a 3d look?

Hi digigriffin,Iwas thinking of ordering sky+hd to go with my v10 but thought that my sky+ box looks good enough.
Have you got a sky+ box at home to compare the differance, thanks.

I have had a sky+HD from launch date where it replace a sky+.
I still have a sky+ as multiroom and thats hooked up to a Sony 24" LCD.

The Sky+HD HD films, sport etc are as good as dvd, and nearly as good as blu ray picture quality.
The sound is still only DD5.1 but thats okay.
The extra cost for HD is £10 per month and I think its worth that if you watch the sport in HD as that is where the big difference is.
When I bought my first HD-Ready TV which the V10 has just replaced I had Sky+ with it, and was impressed with how the SD picture looked on the HD-Ready TV.
If the cost doesn't put you off and you subscribe to enough channels that are in HD, I think you should go with Sky+HD.
After all you have just got a 1080p TV so why not do it justice with a HD picture?

JUST GOT A V10 YESTERDAY, FROM SEVENOAKS AS DIGIGRIFFIN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, SO THANKS FOR THAT. I ASKED INSTORE IF IT CAME WITH A 5 YEAR GUARANTEE AND THEY TOLD ME TWICE THAT IT DID, BUT INSIDE THE BOX COMES PANASONICS STANDARD 1 YEAR WARRANTY AND I CANT FIND ANY MENTION OF THE 5 YEARS, SO I' LL HAVE TO RING THEM TOMORROW AND ASK - THEY SAID PANASONIC PROVIDED THE EXTRA WARRANTY. HAVE YOU GUY TAKEN ANY STEPS TO PREVENT BURN IN, LIKE REDUCING BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST FOR THE FIRST 100 HOURS, OR JUST USING THX MODE? WHAT BLURAY PLAYER ARE YOUGUYS USING, I WAS GOING TO GET A PANASONIC BD 60, BUT IN THE STORE I TESTED THE DENON 1800BD WITH DVDS AND THEY LOOKED GREAT! ALSO CONSIDERING THE PIONEER BDP51F - I DONT CARE ABOUT INTERNET CONNECTIVITY SO PROFILE 2.0 ISNT IMPORTANT TO ME, I JUST WANT THE BEST DVD AND BLURAY PICTURE I CAN GET FOR UNDER £400 (SOUND ISNT IMPORTANT AS I LIVE IN A FLAT AND HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WITH THE VOLUME). LAST THING, CAN YOU HAVE A LOOK ON SKY NEWS AT SOME POINT AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU SEE ANY FLICKERING ON THE BLUE BACKGROUND BEHIND THE PRORAMME LOGO, I FIND IT VERY NOTICEABLE THERE ON MY TV, BUT NOT REALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS AND THE LONG POST, THANKS.

I have had my v10 now for a few days and here are my thoughts...

Intelligent Frame Creation = yuck
Some programs (HD) take on a 3d video look which just looks odd.
So for Me Intelligent Frame Creation (Smooth 24p) is set to OFF (if using THX this is already off as this options is disabled)
It seems odd to me that the much advertised "Leave motion blur behind..." 600hz Intelligent Frame Creation Pro just looks so artificially strange?

So its THX (with no changes) for all blu-ray display.
For Sky+ HD however I like the picture a little brighter so use Normal with the contrast increased to get brighter whites.
It should also be noted that THX does not use overscan and this is optional on the other settings.
So I have this overscan enabled as when using the Wii I got a green line visible at the bottom of the screen in THX.
Still tinkering with the setup that is most forgiving for SD pictures.

I already had a BD-30 and although this is now an old model the picture on 1080p 24p is excellant.
I have not checked the flickering but I would say that historically (pre v10) the News channels have shown picture issues with all my TVs both plasma and LCD. It is something to do with the solid blocks of colour in the on screen panels that they use.

the_ilhc,

I get that its annoying, which is why I apologised for it. I was using my iphone because i don't have internet at home until virgin install it tomorrow. On my iphone, for some reason it lets me type the subject in lower case, but i haven't firgured out how to turn off caps in the main message, apart from pressing shift before each letter, which as you can imagine would take for ever - if anyone knows how to turn off caps, please let me know (only had the phone for 2 days and still figuring things out). Caps come on automatically.

Again, I apologise for the use of caps, i dont like them either, and if you look at my previous posts, before this weekend, you would see that i dont usually use caps.

P.s. using a pc right to right this post, which is why this one is in lower case.
