Hi

I am considering purchasing the Panasonic TX37LZD85, what is
the main difference between this model and the LZD80, is it just better sound
or is the picture quality also better on the 85. I will be using it mainly for
SD viewing (football mainly) and PS3.

Also I’ve just come across the Samsung LE37A656. What does the
hifi team think of this model? Am I better sticking to one of the Panasonics?

By the way it has to be 37” due to room size and LCD because
of the massive amounts of reflection I get. If you can think of another model
that might be better than the above I would be happy to consider.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Any thoughts on the Samsung LE37A656 yet?

Any plans for a review of this set from the What Hi-Fi team? Cheers

Hello Keano,

I'm having a similar dilema to yourself. I want to buy a 37" LCD due to size considerations but can't find a review or comparison of the main two I am interested in, the Pan TX37LZD85 or Samsung LE37A656. Currently (today) through internet searches I favour the Samsung as it seems more stylish, has something to do with 120Hz scanning, but I've read the speakers let it down. Whereas, I've also read the Panasonic does not have very black blacks compared to some LCD TVs, even it's own older model LZD70.

Were you successful in finding your answers?

Did you buy one of the TVs eventually? I'd be v. interested on how please you are with it if you did.

Also, the Panasonic TX37LXD85 seems well priced and although not 1080p, I've been told that below 40" you won't notice the improvement 1080p gives you. Any opinion on this?

Rgds

Firstly, the main difference between the Panny LZD80 and LZD85 is the 100hz double scan on the LZD85. If you're a football then this feature should be worth considering, it should make the motion flow on the set smoother.

I would personally say the Panny out of the two as I actually find the Samsung panel very reflective on the 6 series, I may be wrong but the environment I have viewed it in showed it to be quite reflective.

If you can spend around £900 may I recommend the Panny 37LZD800 - the sound is even better then the LZD85 model and I believe it uses a superior panel (I may be wrong; but the contrast looked exceedingly good when I viewed). On second thoughts it again looked reflective; I would recommend auditioning and ask a PS3 to be hooked up to make sure you make the perfect choice before your purchase ;)

Hope this helps, Lee
