JL have this set for sale at £649 and post this statement: "In response to a competitor we have lowered our price. This replaces any published price." However, they still keep the price of the TH37PX80 at £799 despite it being offered elsewhere for approx £600. I wonder why they choose not to reduce the price of this set but continue to PM it?

Well, other posters here seem to have had quite good success with John Lewis price-matching against rivals, so even if the published price is still £799 on the TH37PX80, you might well be able to get it for less.

And maybe demand for the TH42PX80 is so high JL decided they it could reduce its margin.

Me included. I had a PM on the 37PX80 at £600.

My point was why JL still keep the 37PX80 at £799, knowing full well they are being undersold elsewhere.

Makes a mockery of their slogan.

Yes however if you have someone come in who isn't particularly aware of pricematching etc (for example my parents!), then they will pay the £799 if they want that TV therefore JL get the Retail Price rather than the pricematched price making £200 (or whatever it happens to be).

JL is seen as a very reputable company and if you have had customers buying there for donkey's year they will take the price as gospel and pay it.

To be honest I wasn't aware JL did a pricematching deal until I started on this forum so I would have brought it at the £799 price.
