Panasonic TH37px80 convergence issue

I finally got around to running the THX Optimzer from my "Raiders Of The lost Ark" DVD on my Panny 37PX80. This has thrown up a rather worrying issue in the convergence test. In the white crosshatch pattern near the bottom of the screen there are very noticable patches of colour particularly as the pattern becomes denser towards the right hand side. Is this normal/within tolerances or do I have a fault. Can it be fixed by making alterations to settings (although I can't see which ones would do it).

I can't help you because I have no idea what convergence means, if you had explained the problem without using big words to confuse people you may have got more help.

Sorry I could not make it simpler, but my problem was with the "Convergence" test on the THX Optimizer disc, so I wasn't really expecting any assistance from people who didn't know what the convergence test on the THX optimizer disc was - much in the same way that if I posted about a trolling problem I wouldn't expect assistance from people who didn't know what a troll was.

You're right vanman, it's really annoying when people waste time on these forums with silly questions and responses isn't it?!

EDIT - Just dug out the old THX Optimiser and when I got to this test, I didn't have any colour in the part you're talking about, just black and white. Not sure what advice to give you, but thought I'd let you know it doesn't appear to be normal...

Children, children...

I don't quite see how you can adjust the convergence on a plasma or LCD screen - isn't all to do with the picture 'guns' in CRT TVs or projectors with three chips?

And before anyone suggests moving the pixels a bit closer together...

This was pretty much what I thought - The Panasonic seems to be displaying the symptoms of a problem that it shouldn't really have. There are very obvious patches of colour in the black and white cross hatching pattern on the THX optimizer convergence test. Given that this series of tests is often quoted on these forums, the original post was designed to see if anyone else had noticed a similar problem (or not) if running this particular test on a Panasonic plasma.

Thanks for doing that. I've forgotten which plasma you have. I've been suspecting for a while that there might be something not quite right with my PX80. It recieves a lot of praise for its movement capability but I have often noticed a slight greening around the edges of moving objects - wonder if the two problems are connected.

What level do you have your sharpness settings at? I was able to get rid of the colour patches by reducing my sharpness setting to about 40%, which seems a bit low. However, this produced a very soft and blurry image, but from 50% onwards the patches start to return. Interestingly enough the "What Hi Fi" guide suggests turning sharpness controls off completely but that really doesn't work on for my picture. I'd be interested to know what other PX80 owners have their settings at.
