has anyone got the new pana bd80 yet. read the review of bd60 this month and seems good. I take it the bd 80 should be along the same lines as the bd55 ? want to buy one so let me know. come on what hi fi wheres the 80 review?

I've had the BD80 for 2 weeks now and running it in to a Sony 40W5500. The images it produces are stunning and the sound is also top notch through KEF eggs. It also does a very good job upscaling as I watched the Dark Knight DVD last night and was impressed with the images. The controls and features are extensive and easy to use so I really can't fault it on that apsect either. I went for this over the BD60 as I needed the analogue outs. Only small negative is that it can take a while to load initially but it's worth the wait.

But is it superior to the BD55 it is replacing - that's the question.

That is what I thought exactly - the WHF staff will not comment on this either, for obvious reasons.

If by 'obvious reasons' you mean that we haven't tested the BD80 yet, you'd be right.

We hoping for a test unit soon - we're off to Panasonic on Tuesday (to get a hands-on with the new Freesat Blu-ray recorders) so will chase it up then.,,

Great - looking forward to that test. I hope you can state conclusively if the BD80 is better than the BD55 or not, instead of leaving us guessing, like the review for the BD60.

But are you going to get a review sample of the Blu ray recorder as well because this will kill about 4 birds with one stone for me if it is any good.

That would be great, as would, as always, info on boot times. Im unlikely to change soon as ive just got a bd35 cheap, but i wouldnt rule it out, and boot time is my biggest irritation with bdps in general, and with the '35 also, even after a few weeks experience with it. To clarify, im refering to the time it takes to even open the tray after pressing the power button.
