Does this mean we might get better quality tvs in the future as they want to focus on quality rather than quantity

Panasonic is already playing to the quality end of the market - it's not competing (certainly in Europe) at the bargain-basement level some rivals also play in.

This isn't a surprising move by Panasonic - no-one is making decent money out of TVs, and they've all got to cut costs somewhere.
