I bought this TV last week and so far have been delighted with it ( upgraded from 5 year old 32" LCD pana). In terms of settings we have found the normal viewing mode to be excellent ( with eco mode on to adjust for changes in lighting) and use the cinema mode for blu-rays (pana DMP-BD60 which what hifi knocked a star off the day after I bought it boo hoo). I was full of intentions to calibrate using a THX DVD, but have found no need so far. We have been watching on Freeview , and are going to try the Freesat later this week if we can find a route through the trees for the satellite signal.

I was nervous about changing to plasma but well pleased that I did. Certainly well worth the current price tag of around £800. I bought mine from the panasonic shop to get the 5 year warranty, but currently on amazon at 798.

To get the settings which get closest to the standards the general method is to go to Cinema mode with colour temperature warm, then adjust contrast, brightness etc...to suit your viewing conditions. The Panasonics don't have much in the way of calibration controls, you can fine tune greyscale and gamma in the service menu (but beware on that!) but cinema-warm, gets pretty close

As mentioned above, Cinema mode is best, and looks great in the evening watching a movie.

You will probably find it a bit dull for daytime viewing and prefer normal mode, with/without Eco option (which adjusts the contrast to suit the varying lighting conditions)

I pretty much have those settings for my Pana

Though I find the Warm steeing sa bit to yellow for my liking.....I want to like it a nd use but just doesn't look right. I use normal with Cinema with Contrast set about 65-70 and Brightness set to abiut 55-60 and colour at about 40-50

If you have it on warm for a week or so then you'll realise that it's how it should look, then normal and cool will look completely wrong, I used to feel the same
