PANA TXP46G10 - any good?

After a sniff around the www, it seems that the Pana TXP46G10 can be had for £1000 (ish) - a price that seems to be too-good-to-be-true for a 46in 1080p/24fps Pana plasma.

Such a bargain price is normally indicative of a set that's actually not much cop?

Appreciate that the TXP42G10 gets 5/5 stars, but that doesn't mean that the 46in version will be as good.

Can't find any reviews around WHFS&V?, so does anyone how the TXP46G10 performs?

Thanks.

i just got the 46 g15 model and it is excellent. If you want plasma then i think the G10/G15 are excellent. Neighbours have got the G10 models. If i wanted LCD i would have gone for the Sony Z5500 models

Thanks, Clare. When's the test due to be published?

Thanks for response, StaggerLee.

What's the difference between the G15 & the G10?

The 46in Supertest will be in our December issue, on sale 11 November, with subscribers from 6th November.

And the G15 features connectivity extras over the G10 - eg VieraCast and DNLA support

I was hoping to see the Philips 9704 in the line-up. I'm in the market for a new 46/47 inch LCD/Plasma and the Philips is my first option. The others were the Samsung, Sony and the Pana G15. Just curious if the massive price of 2600 euro (in holland) is worth it.

Again, thanks for response.

So, in essence, are the S10, G10 & G15 the same set but don't share the bells & whistles (VieraCast and DNLA) - in other words, do they have the same pic quality?

Not in our testing experience to date - though this does vary both between screen sizes and formats (LCD/plasma).

The S10 lacks the Freesat capabilities of the G10/G15, and also uses an inferior motion-processing engine.

Hmm, that'll explain why the S10 can be had for £869.99 at Play.com!

Last time I looked, most places were selling the 50G10 for about the same or even less than the 46G10.

Quick look on Dixons today, 50G10 £948.99 with free delivery.

Don't know if a 50inch will be too big for your room though.

Interesting the 46 - 50" is just the size range I am looking into. Although I may hold off until next year now to gain freeview HD built in. Shame Panasonic do not do a 46V10 that probably would have been my sweet spot.

Well, not always. In today's economic climate, there's a cut throat competition amongst manufacturers & dealers in run up to Christmas. So it won't be uncommon to find price drops & bargains, which may not always correlate to inferior quality.

Alas, my living-room is only 3.8m x 5.8m & my viewing area has to be across the width (3.8m), because the TV has to be wall-mounted above the fireplace.

Hence, a 50in would look a tad extreme - & I'm also pretty sure that 'Er Indoors would surreptitiously drain my shampoo bottle & refill with H2SO4.
