After weeks on this fine site and reading endless reviews on dozens of units, you guys have finally persuaded me that plasma is the route and Panasonic is the brand...37PX80.

Now the big one...where and how much?

I have a specialist dealer who i trust and installed a superb audio system for me some 8 years ago.

They have offered me the following deal:

37PX80 with 5 yr warranty + Yamaha Sound projector YSP500+QED or Chord cable+stand+installation and removal of old equipment for £1,200.They will also give me demo of whole system in their audio/visual suites 1st.

The high st. price is a few hundred cheaper but i'd have to dispose of the current large set myself and set-up all the individual items.[ no great confidence in my own abilities]

The net price is dirt cheap but lacks the personal touch and expert installation/demo/aftercare. Which to choose, pals?.I estimate the difference between net and specialist to be about £250 . Seems to be money v peace of mind dilemma again? A swift response would be very much appreciated.

Depends on how much that £250 means to you! If it's going to take days of your time to set up, plus dispose of your old gear, is your time worth more the money?

Also, if you go with your local specialist, you're not just buying peace of mind, but expertise: not only for the demo and install, but for any ongoing support/advice you need. I think that's well worth a premium.

Thanks,Clare

I guess my gut feeling is the same.I know I could get the Unit and the soundbar projector cheaper but that time and expertise could save a lot of arguments, frustration and phonecalls.

Does the Yamaha sound projector have a good reputation? and is £50 a reasonable price to pay for a HDMI cable that will esentially only be used for upscaling my DVD collection from a new Sony HDD recorder?

I appreciate all the help on this site over the weeks and am off now to get the new issue of WHF!!!!!!

[just hope it doesn't confuse me further!]

It's a decision we all hav to make.I decided that I'll get my TV locally and ase any potential problems that may crop up. I'll also get a free 5 year warranty with my new TV so that really does take the edge off any price difference for me.
