pair of loudspeakers for yamaha rx-v673

hi,

I was thinking of hooking a pair of q acoustics 2050i or monitor audio rx6 to the yamaha rx-v673.

Any experience with this set up?

I've not heard Q Acoustics 2050i's with the RX-V673 however i can say that Monitor Audio's Silver RX6's form an excellent tonal match with Yamaha's RX-V673

What you need to be careful of here is whether your 673 has adequate bass control for the speakers you're thinking of. If the receiver isn't up to the job, the speakers will lack punch, and bass will be ill defined resulting in a dull sound for both music and movies.

The RX6's aren't short of bass, and this usually requires a fair amount of control by the AV receiver. As good as the 673 is, if you want to be looking at £1,000 floorstanders, I would go for a more capable receiver like the RXA1020 or the outgoing RXA1010 if your budget is tight.

As well as the RX6 and 2050i, you could also look at the Tannoy DC6T (standar and special edition) and the KEF Q700.

If the system is to be used with two or five main speakers then the RX-V673 can configured to exert even greater drive and control over compatible speakers (such as Silver RX6's) by ultizing the suround back amplification to bi amplify the front main speakers. Please refer to the RX-V673's instruction manual ( page 21).

I had initially considered the marantz sr6007 but eventually settled for the v673 given the price.

Any opinion on the marantz?

I guess that should work too. I will be initially only using two front speakers given budget restrictions. Perhaps consider adding some sorround stuff etc, sometime next year.

I am a novice at hifi,hopefully the suggestion you make is easy to implement.

Using the RX-V673 to bi amplify speakers is likely to result in an even clearer, tighter, faster and defined performance.

Btw, if you have any issues implementing bi amping then please ask.

i have the 673 amp and the 2050i speakers and they work very well together. they are very dynamic and punchy.

ive got the speakers bi-amped in parallel and found a big difference in sound quality over the traditional bi-amping. traditional sounded a it strained and the tweets and mids appeared very 'seperate' now they are good though!

i got the 673 with the 2050i since i will upgrade to the full q acoustics 2000 5.1 range but i wanted good stereo sound too. the bass from these speakers is very good and i dont need a sub.

overall, i would recommend the combo but the speakers take forever to run in!!!
