My faithful Denon M30 really has seen better days, had it 9 years, pre select on FM has packed up, spring clip terminals gave up the ghost when fitting chord carnival silver (!!!!), set of Mission book shelves hanging off the end (can't remeber which 71s maybe)

All leading to an excuse to buy the current model 37DAB, looks nice, had good reviews so I am sold, question...................what speakers??

Set up is that speakers are positioned close to the wall on the top of the welsh dresser with the speaker on their sides ( no sniggering at the back.............used in the kitchen diner family area)

I guess the choices are Dali Lektor 1, Q1010 etc etc, looking for user advice on these and others that can really make the Denon sing?

Please

Think the 2010s got the top marks in latest WHF, doesn't say if they were tested with the DM37 though. Personally I opted for the MA BR1s after doing some auditions. Mounted very close to wall on speaker brackets. I was a bit wary about them being rear ported, but have to say I just love 'em.

Sizzers will no doubt be along later to say his Tannoy F1s are the bees knees for the 37.

lol Well they are for the £90 I paid for them!

My actual preferred combo with the Denon are the Dali's which suit my particular listening arrangements (read restrictions!) perfectly. Having heard them not too long after buying my set-up I was so close to buying a pair but decided I couldn't justify the then £300 asking price. To be honest I had completely forgotten about them, having then had no further thoughts on changing my speakers, until I heard the combo again about a month ago. Checking out that they can now be had for around £230 they are most definitely back on the radar but will have to wait a while, though, as getting a CDP together for a seperate headphone set-up first.

Funnily enough I still have a DM31 and needed to change the speakers (Mission 71i's that were a horrible beech colour ;-) )

I got the Tannoy F1se's in a dark oak colour to match the furniture in the small lounge. The sound is sooo much better - in all ways- and they only cost me £80.

The moral of the story is not just that the F1's are bargain beauties, but also' that interior design can be used to the benefit of men as well. Next time she looks like wanting to redecorate have a search for available colours in the speakers of your choice and then enthusiastically support any paint/wallpaper that matches.

Not sure I would want to go overboard and spend a lot on speakers if they are situated in a kitchen/dining area. Lot of hard reflective surfaces, lack of soft furnishings etc. Bound to have an impact on the sound, surely.

Wouldn't spend a lot on anything to be honest. No offence to the OP but ANY speakers are going to be totally ruined placed where suggested.

I've never had any experience with wall mounted speakers (except those you see stuck on pub walls!) so I really can't comment on their performance. They don't appeal to me personally, even though they would make a massive difference space wise in my room.

Thanks guys for the responses...................looks as if the Tannoy F1s are the way to go, especially at the price

Hopefully I will find some..............

Thanks again

I wasn't suggesting the Tannoy's with your proposed listening set-up, I was simply responding to 8009514's comment that I would be along later recommending them.

They are my favourite budget "budget" speaker with the Denon (although I haven't heard the new Q 2010's), but they have taken a bit of a price hike lately but can still be had for around £115.

Now you aren't going to get anything from your speakers placed on a Welsh dresser - let alone being on their sides - apart from boom, muddle, and rattling China, so can't you look at wall mounting them? I'm not so sure that the Tannoy's would be suitable for this but Roth Audio OLi1's work well against a wall as well as being small sized, and the review here on the 2010's says something similar. Others will have other suggestions, and I'm sure there are other options to look at in the "Review" section on here.

Thanks Sizzers

project for the Easter weekend, wall brackets for speakers, good advice....................will let you know

Just a thought, which may save you a bit of cash. Don't really think it will matter much which speakers you put in a kitchen/dining room setting. You'll not get the best out of anything with the sound bouncing of kitchen cupboards, worktops etc. The Wharfedale Diamond 9.0s were going for about £50 a pair (try Superfi). They're pretty good speakers and at that price I would put them in my kitchen.

Good suggestion. Never heard them myself but discontinued at Superfi. Richer Sounds have them at £40-50 but in-store only so hard to find. Roth's at Superfi are £75 which seems pretty reasonable.

Room is about 4.25 x 4.25 m, with speakers to be wall mounted either side of Dresser facing "in" to the room (i.e wher we listen), I like the look and reviews of the Roths, do you reckon they will be OK for the size of the room?

I'm not particularly experienced at suggesting speakers for particular room sizes so would suggest putting up a seperate post for the Roths.

I would tentatively like to say "Yes", but please ask the experts!
