I used to have an Arcam A85/P85/CD82 system which I decided to replace for something a little more lively. In the end I went for Naim, and had to settle for running with the B&W DM603S3 until I had the time/money to upgrade my speakers AKA the weak link.
Over the past few weeks the upgrade bug has been buzzing rather too loudly in my ears, and I have been looking at alternatives. Given the fairly well publicized synergy between Naim and Neat, I was keen to hear the Motive 2s. The dealer suggested I also tried Linn Majik and Spendor A5.
So went yesterday to the dealer, armed with a stack of CDs. Started off with the Neat Motive 2. I really enjoyed these speakers, although I found the top end a little too much on certain tracks, all in all very good though. After about 3/4 hr listening the dealer then swapped over to the Spendor A5. Immediately I could hear a vast difference, and much preferred the Spendor sound. The detail in midrange seemed to jump out at me, and the sound was very involving and seemed envelope you far more that the Neats.
I could try and explain the sound of the A5 in detail, but fear I would not really be doing them (or myself) much justice, and its also been done far better by WHF. All that is left to say is I have been listening with a massive smile on my face to my new system for about the past 3 hrs. The B&W have served me well, but I wont be sad to see them go. [😀]
