Looking for opinions on above. Not that I can afford the 2M black at the moment, just wondering if it might be worth saving up. And does anyone know if the 2M 78 stylus will fit on any of the 2M cartridges? Thanks.

Hi willgaunt. According to the Ortofon website the answer is no.

For the record.
The 2M 78 stylus will work well with any of the 2M series. However, the output will be in stereo whereas most 78's were recorded in mono which is why Ortofon suggest the mono body.
The 2M Black is a huge step up from the OM40, both in diamond and body material.

Thanks for the info. Clarifies what Ortofon told me, which was less illuminating than I'd hoped. I'm assuming that the 78 stylus on the 2M body would give a similar result to using the equivalent stylus on the OM body. If so it will do for occasional use - I have a wind-up machine in the corner that suits 78s better anyway!
