Hi all, long time no post.
I recently upgraded to BT TV HD and a new Samsung 4K TV. My Yamaha receiver doesn't pass 4K so I have connected the BT box directly to the TV by HDMI . But how do I get audio to the receiver? I have connected with an optical cable but nothing seems to work. Anybody know how to make it work please?

I've partly resolved this by swapping which HDMI ports on the TV I use. But now the receiver always switches on and off with the TV box. Not quite what I wanted to do but at least I now have sound!

Hi Petherick,
Welcome to the forum. You have a couple of options.
To enable the optical connection you need to adjust the settings on the BT TV box.

"To enable Surround Sound on your TV box, press the Home (or YouView) button on the remote control. Go to Settings > TV Signal & Quality > S/PDIF Audio Format and change from 'STEREO' to 'SURROUND"

To keep as is but stop the receiver coming on whenever you switch on the TV you need to disable HDMI control on the amp but leave ARC on. Page 99 of the manual which can be found online if you need step by step walk through.

Cheers

Many thanks Tonestar1, I think that's sorted it!
I used to be a member before the new management came in but haven't posted for a very long while. Thank you for the welcome.
