Optical cable question

My gear is capable of doing 24/192 via optical. Sadly my current cable has developed a fault which results in intermittant sound. I bought the cable ages ago and can't remember the make (no markings).

The 2 other cables i have only do 24/96. Obviously not all optical cables are equal. Can anyone recommend a cable capable of 24/192 audio?

A quick google turned up that using optical cable above 96/24 requires it to be short. Other problems can be caused by source as apple just don't output 192/24 and many pc based solutions may show 192/24 but are in actual fact outputting a rate limited by the bios.
Best use short optical cable or try usb.

My current cable was 1 metre and worked perfectly until the fault. Not convinced by usb for audio always thought optical sounds better. I have a 0.6m cable that only does 24/96.

Have you tried it? Or is that simply the spec?

As far as I am aware there is little difference in toslink cables but length is important.

The quality of the transmitters and receivers in the various devices are more important, there seems to be some variation that limit the performance in some cases..

Yes dave i only get 24/96 with my other cables (0.6m and 1m). The cable that worked perfectly wasn't even expensive, only £5 i think. The other ones are £20 and £30 so you would expect them to perform better.

The original aim was 48/44.1, the current spec of toshiba 96/24 as upper limit. From reading on the psaudio forum you need to be lucky in your purchase; depending on connectors and the optical cable itself it will be good enough but most are not. You could try glass optical and cheap plastic as those are tge nain differences I know. Good luck
