my friend once bought a pioneer blu ray player based on a what hi fi review that cost him 400.00, he tested it next to my oppo and was very dissapointed with the results,and we later found out the pioneer was really just a rebadged sharp,

FFS! The 400 quid Pioneer is NOT a rebadged Sharp! IIRC the cheapest Pioneer BDP available in the US WAS a rebadged Sharp but that player was never sold in this country!
