Hi guys, i am from Portugal, and this is my first post here, hope you can help me

I have the Arcam Alpha 9 amp, packed with Dali Speakers, and my dvd is a Sony HX750, with upscale to 1080p, and a LCD Bravia 32 V2500

My question is: i am thinking of buying the new Onkyo TX 605, and puting the Arcam as power amp for the front channels, and the resto for the Onkyo....but the guy at the store told me that the 605 doesn´t have preouts....... that i have toi go to new also TX - 705, the have preouts for the seven channels....... is this accurate? should it worth it the difference of price? Because i want to connect everything via hdmi, to the amp, and to the lcd.......

Help

Total and utter rubbish. All AV amps will have a complete set of pre-outs. You can do a search online for the Onkyo 605 and you'll find numerous reviews and some have photographs of the machine from the rear. You'll be able to see the pre-outs here.

I'm so sorry. How incredible! I can't believe it doesn't have them. You're spot on mate. I had not expected Onkyo to omit something so fundemental!

It's actually not that surprising for a receiver at this price point, Will - check out the tech-spec panel of our £350-£400 receiver group test on p71 of the November issue.

Just bought it Clare. Must say (I feel so totally gay saying this) that it's one of the highlights of my month. Errrrr. Throw up.

Ok, no doubt get a hammering for that, but this is my private passion and I admit (on here only) to being a geek. In real life I'm a sauve sophisticated gentleman! Yeah right.

I'll be reading it in a bit. I've had a decent amp for so long I'd forgotten what a budget amp spec can look like. Must say, I am shocked at the lack of pre-outs. But I suppose you do get a lot of kit for your money so maybe it's not so strange.

Im actually confused in which one to get. Ive only got a small setup, and was going to go with the 605, but now im thinking maybe i should pay extra and get the 705. lol this is hard work!

Both my hdmi's would be used from day one, leaving none free for a sky HD etc in the future. And the pre outs could be a good idea. Is the THX sound worth it? and is there anything else different, like scaling etc?

Does the 605/705 scale images to hd? so if i put my wii into it component will it upscale it through the hdmi?

please help lol.

The 705 have more power, have a THX certification, have an extra HDMI input, have the Audyssey MultEQ© XT to Correct Room Acoustic Problems and to Calibrate Speakers, with the microphone, instead of the Audyssey 2EQT of the 605, have the preouts for the seven channels, have a phono input, a RS232 input........

But for me the real deal is the preouts for the 7 channels, the better Audissey to calibrate acoustic problems, and the Cirrus Logic 192 kHz/24-Bit Audio DACs for All Channels...... here in Portugal it cost 200 ? plus than the 605
