Please can anyone advise...

The only thing putting me off buying the 606 is the not so good reviews of it's stereo sound. I wonder if bi amping my front speakers would improve this. I am also looking at the SONY STRDG820 and the Yamaha DSPAX763.

I like all the extra features on the 606, especially zone 2 speaker capability, and given that I can pick one up for under £300, I wonder if this would be the best amp to go for.

Thanks in advance

Can you bi-amp with the 606? I'm pretty sure the 606 will be better than the Sony you mention, but if you are going to use with music, it is probably a very good idea to listen first since I've seen a number of posts where people have been very disappointed with the music side and, since it has no pre-outs, you're a bit stuck if this is the case.

Thanks for the reply

I understand that you can bi-amp the 606, I could be wrong though, at the expense of the zone 2, it might be worth it for slightly better stereo performance.

I am going to have a listen today

Thanks again for the advice

Yes, you can with the 606,. It connects to the surround back connections (7.1 set up), not zone 2 speakers. But zone 2 will not work at same time.

I find using 2.1 speakers (Q Acoustics 1010i), and my Marantz CD63 K I, the stereo sound to be ok.

But its probably my ears!!!

Peterpickles, let me know what you thought after listening to them.....

I have been holding out for over a year now on what receiver to get while waiting for the other big name TrueHD receivers come on the market.

I only had time to listen to the 606 in the end it sounded pretty good with small MS speakers. I think I will have a listen to the Sony STR-DA2400ES before I make a decision, it's a bit more than I wanted to pay but I do like the idea of pre outs so I can use another amp if I need to.

Thanks again

something to be aware of it with regards to bi amping, my onkyo 605 handbook says that you can only do it with speakers of 8 ohm of more otherwise you could damage the receiver
