Onkyo SR-TX605 video up conversion

Hi,

My pioneer 1014 doesn't power up and I am in urgent need to replace it and can't wait for the new Onkyo 606, I am looking at SR-605 and need to know if it can do upconversion of SD sources. The specs on Onkyo website says it can upscale and also has Faroudja chip is it true.

It doesn't actually say it can upscale, only that it can upconvert - ie take composite, S-video and component and output via HDMI, but at the same resolution.

And the Faroudja chip is a deinterlacer, not a scaler. In other words it can convert from interlaced to progressive scan, but that's all.

With regards to the 606, is it confirmed yet whether it will have upscaling capabilities?

We don't have any official UK/Euro specs yet, but it seems yes, to 720p/1080i, at least according to the manual posted on one of Onkyo's international sites.

Well if that is the case it's good enough for me. I will await for confirmation of this and the release date, and then put an order in.

Thanks Andrew for quick response and explanation, as I mentioned I can't wait for another month for new 606 also not sure if the new 606 will be as good as 605 hence placed the order few minutes ago.
