Good morning from France,

I know that I will need a very better AV receiver than the Onkyo NR609 to get the best from the APEX but my budget is a bit short at this time to get better AV.

Can you tell me if it will run correctely or if I must wait to own APEX with a decent AV?

Thank you for your answer and advice.

Hi Tristan21 and welcome to the forum,

I have the Apex speakers and you will not regret buying them.

I first auditioned the Apex speakers with the 609 and it did sound good, but if you can wait and buy something along the lines of the Pioneer LX73, Denon 3311,Arcam 400 or the Yamaha amps (not sure of the model numbers now) you will find a big difference in the sound quality.

My Advise would be to draw up a shortlist the go out and demo, you cannot beat hearing it for yourself.

Happy hunting.

Hi Tristian21

The TX-NR609 will do an an admirable job with Apex speakers although ultimately even higher calibre of amplification is needed to help bring the finest performance from the Apex speakers.

Btw, Yamaha's new RX-V671 or RX-V771 are also worth serious consideration.

All the best

Of all the £500 AV receivers available, the 609 will as good, if not a better, job than any. It'll run fine, you'll just find that the Apex might lack a little finesse, and maybe not sound as transparent as they should do. At least when you do come to change your receiver, you're going to hear a rather large difference! :)
