Onkyo 607 or wait for 608?

I see that the Onkyo 607 is sold for 289£ now and the new 608 is on preorder for 490. I am considering a low budget 5.1 setup, wouldn`t the 607 be a better choice at such a low price?

The 608 is a better product ( RRP is £450). As you are starting afresh you may want one of the HDMI 1.4 amps - the 508 is coming in between £300 and £350.

Its £440 pre order in most places.

I am in same dilemna and have decided to wait as I am not budget constrained. If you are, and 1.4 HDMI isn't an issue for you then go with the 607.

608 due early May, but no word on when its likely to be reviewed.

What are the main differences, what is the advantage with 1.4? I use a normal Panny plasma and PS3 as my source.

I can see that the amplification seems to offer better construction and Burr Brown DACs, but is it a huge difference, perhaps difficult to say.

The Onkyo 608 is designed for this years new upgrade 3dtv from Sky, blu-ray and then games consoles. So if this takes you fancy then your one third there with the PS3, you will need to replace your tv, and that could be expensive, with or without the glasses.You can play a waiting game and see how the Onkyo 608 or any other new 3d amps far upto last years models, which will probably be a month or twr else you can pick up the 607 at a good price now before they get discontinued, maybe the Denon 1910.This really depends on wether you are planning for 3d tv soon or not because if you buy a current amp that does'nt support 3d then not only will you need a new tv or projector you may have to buy a new amp to feed it all too.So i would look at your current setup and think how long before i buy a new tv, if its this year or next then seriously consider waiting for the new arrivals.
