Hi. I.m really searching for a good receiver, not too expensive. I want mainly good stereo sound and good upscale. I can buy the new onkyo for 325 pounds. I think it's a pretty good deal. I can pay a little bit more for other but don't know exactly wich one (the yamaha 763 is not available here in Portugal). What do you reccomend>

Thank you

What system are you putting it into? The reason I ask is, if you want mainly good stereo sound, you'd be much better off with a dedicated stereo integrated amp rather than an AV receiver. For upscaling, you may actually find the components you already have offer better upscaling than the Onkyo, hence why I'm asking. Also, what are your main sources e.g. Blu-Ray, DVD, TV? Is music important in the setup?

i have apair of monitor audio br5. The problem is exactly that, I use it mainly for sd tv and dvd (I have a oppo 981, so it does the upscale job). The thing is that my tv signal is not hd, that;s why I would like the upscale receiver. If not I thought to buy a nad bee stereo amp. So, is there anything good for stereo and does upscale not too expensive?

What do you think?

Okay, what are you watching it through though? Your TV will be upscaling the signal if necessary you see so it depends how good the TV is at doing this. I'm assuming we're talking an external PVR or something as well since, if you're using the TV's inbuilt tuner, you won't be able to export this for upscaling by a different component...

I have a pio 508xd and regular cable tv. I think my tv doesn't upscale the signal, only fits it to display, right?

Well, that's pretty much what upscaling is in a nutshell - converting the signal to the TV's native resolution. Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of seeing any of the Pioneers (would probably just make me jealous!), but their reputation precedes them and I would seriously doubt if the upscaler in the Onkyo is better than the one in the Pioneer. Hopefully a few Pio owners can confirm this for you.
Assuming that, I think you'd definitely be better off going with a stereo integrated amp.
