Ok i had decided that i would get myself a Pioneer LX-81 or even a LX-71 sound wise not alot in it, anyway i have done a bit of research and read reviews on the Onk-875 most on this forum rate it very highly as do What HiFi, the prices i have found vary from £500 to £600 give or take which is very good considering this cost around a £1000, so this puts me in a position where by is the Pioneer nearly £900 better than the Onk, i have to say i have seen the pioneer and demoed it, and as i say this would have been my purchase, however at the end of the day you have to be sensible and look at the options £900 is alot of money to pay above an amp that has had great reviews.

So i would like some feed back from other users and the What HiFi team if poss on what i should do, i do not have any problem with the onkyo, as i say i have done a little research i know they can get hot, and are not the best looking bit of kit but at the end of the day i want good sound, thats it really not to fussed about fancy bits and whistles.

Finally if i did go for the onkyo i would like to know what you all think about the upscaling part is like, is it any good?? it will be partnered with a pioneer FD-51 Blu-ray player, any feed back would greatly appreciated. I have not been able to audition the onkyo for myself, so your input is important as i would be buying blind.

Many thanks

Andy

Hi Andy

I was drawn to the Onkyo 875 in the 1st place as were so many people in the Industry because of its unbelievable specs for £1000.

How they managed to build a full 'Class A' amp with 200 x 7w of power with Burr Brown DAC's, Reon chipset weighing in at over 52Lbs, no wonder nothing could beat it!

This years crop have only bettered it by a touch anyway.
As I have done many posts, if you spend some of the money saved on achieving a stable and clean Mains supply it makes a massive difference to the clarity/detail/openness of the music.
You would not believe you are listening on a AV amp.

I don't hear cries of disappointment from anyone who owns one apart from the heat it puts out, but that is what Class A amps do, so is normal.

With having £900 unspent it gives you options to use the money elsewhere to make for a better sounding system. IMHO

Hi, I have the 875 myself and i think it's a great machine. I dont rate it that much for music, prefer my cyrus set-up, but for blu-ray, xbox 360 and ps3 it is great value for money, even when it was £1000!
