Could the long wait for the Holy Grail of OLED TV finally be coming to an end. It looks like Samsung are starting to gear up to finally release an OLED TV. Mind you it would probably boil down to buying a new house or a 40 inch OLED TV. Choices eh!

No. You aren't going to see affordable OLED screens that quickly. Don't forget Sony have already sold the 11-inch OLED set in limited quantities at £2500, with most of them being sold through Harrods in this country. Its going to take a long time and mass production to bring those prices down.

OLED looks to be a fantastic new technology.

What about the transmissions though, particularly Freeview HD - isn`t it about time the analogue signal was switched off ?

I`d like to see manufacturers being able to fit HD Freeview tuners into tv sets ready for the world cup.

I live in an area of Swindon where standard Freeview is not available until 2010. I was told by Freeview that because of the late switch over date Freeview HD should also be ready by then - one of the first areas to receive HD !

Wouldn't we all love to have Freeview HD in your area Kev. But no joy as there is 3 types of signal being picked up in and around Swindon, the change over is March 24th 2010 (West), 2011 (Central) and lastly 2012 (Meridian). So in hindsight Swindon won't be the first to recieve 'Freeview HD' so someone is telling porkies!! London will be the first to recieve Freeview HD as it's already been tried & tested. We'll be lucky if we see Euro 12 in this format outside of London. If you want to watch HD 'free', go to Freesat HD+ (Humax Foxsat HDR), yes they aren't nice to see outside our homes (satellites), but it's the only way.

Manufactures have installed HD Tuners into their sets already but not destined for the UK market yet! Freeview wants the UK version (HD) to be in M-PEG4 instead of M-PEG2 like in France.

OLED does look good on small screen and no doubt it'll be even better on the big screen. Ask yourself this, have you got £15,000 to spare? Coz that's how much it'll cost today for a 42" I'll bet and don't be mistaken for LED TV's as there still LCD!

I did not mean Swindon would be the first to receive Freeview HD but it would now be nearer the top of the list for changeover.

Manufacturers are producing all this fantastic new technology yet we cannot get the best out of it due to the ridiculously long wait of analogue being switched off.

Analogue is being phased out to gradually introduce digital. They are avoiding the mess that happened in the US, where it couldn't happen all at once and has been pushed back. OLEC wouldn't be mass produced and cheap enough foir many years, by which something better would of come along. If you want HD now, like spokes said, got to FreesatHD or Sky for most content.

Not picking bones out but go down to a local indepentent to get more info on the update for 'Freeview HD'. If I remember from the tests in London the boxes used may not even work with M-PEG4. If anyone who did this trail in London, how was it for you? The quality of picture I mean!!
