Very silly of me I know but blame the enthusiasm of my Christmas present to myself Sonos bundle but.
Anyway long story short having bought myself a Sonos bundle plus additional S5 zone player (thanks to Audio T in Preston) I set about ripping my CD collection intending to have the "rips" reside on an old laptop sat next to the router in my wifes study/office that also houses the S5.
Anyway for the convenience of using Itunes and as the Sonos system reads just about any format I ripped to ALAC and have to say things sound pretty good. Only fly in the ointment where I work in the Middle East I use an Onkyo NR905 AV receiver. Having taken copies of all the ripped CD files with me I dumped them onto my NAS drive which is in turn connected to my Onkyo doooooh I suddenly remember the only uncompressed lossless format the Onkyo recognises is wav.
I downloaded and registered a copy of dbpower amp which has got a batch file converter option that handles ALAC to wave conversion and it works OK on the couple of files I tested but of course I lose a lot of the metadata. So question, is there a better way anyone can suggest?
CD's of course are back in the UK so for the time being re-ripping them isn't an option.
All suggestions greatfully received and a Happy New Year to all.
