Hi, I have been looking at sennheiser HD650 headphones which are rated at 300ohm.

Would any one know if these would work OK with a yamaha A-S1100 ?

Iv'e seen it mentioned that a separate headphone amp is needed with these headphones but cannot find a straight answer.

Hope someone can help.

Generally speaking, because integrated amps have a lot of power, they can provide far more than needed to the headphone output. If an integrated amp reduced the output power (which also goes to the speakers) to the headphone out so much that it wouldn't drive an HD650, that would be a VERY strange amp. The Yamaha should be one of the best. I had one a few years ago.

It could run them. A low powered amp could run speakers but a better powered amp would likely run them better.

I just bought the HD650 the other week (Gear4Music - £230) and am using the headphone socket on my Hegel H160 and they sound amazing but the Hegel is regarded to have a beast of headphone output for an integrated amp.

I've no doubt these headphones would work on your amp and go loud, after all there's a thread on Head Fi where a few users have their HD650 plugged directly into a Chromecast Audio and they say that can drive the headphones well. So if that little thing can an integrated amplifier should manage it.

With the HD650 you have the capacity to improve the sound you get in the future if you ever choose to buy a dedicated headphone amp and you don't necessarily need to spend big on them either. A Fiio headphone amp for example wouldn't break the bank.

Amazing headphones though!

Thank you all for getting back to me.

It was the amp spec that was confusing....
Headphone jack rated ouput powerCD, etc ( 1KHZ, 32 ohm 0.2%THD ) 25mW + 25mW
