Oh dear, my DVD player is going pear-shaped

I have a Sony recorder and over the festive period I've partially lost the sound, although when played through my amp it's fine. I contacted the dealer where it was purchased he said it could be a number of things. He wants me to take it in & have it checked which will cost £25.00 plus the price of whatever neeeds replacing. Worst scenario will set me back about £100.

I bought this machine 4 years ago @ around £300 - is it worth repairing, or just replace it?

I picked up a Samsung-DVD-HD870 for £40.00 on Amazon. Fabulous player for very little money. Alternatively spend the £100 on the award winning Onkyo - see reviews.
