Yeah, this is brand new rather than pre-owned. I had a list of three Dylan albums that I wanted, and this was the only one in stock.

I've been pleasantly surprised by how good the pre-owned Muddy Waters LP was that I picked up on the same trip. Thinking about it (big generalisation here), I suspect that most people who play vinyl are extremely careful with it, so buying pre-owned records and Hi-Fi kit just feels like a "safe" thing to do.

I have had some trashed LPs but buying from selected second-hand dealers helps .

A bit more contemporary than my usual stuff, but still 30+ years old 🤦‍♂️

The guy who bought my old turntable earlier in the week mentioned to me a record shop in town that I didn't know about, so I'll see if they can help me to start building my Blues collection as there's an incredibly meagre offering of that genre in the shop I have been using.

So I popped to that record shop and it's a delight - a "proper" shop. I picked up a couple of modern Blues pressings which will be shared here in time, but also took punt on an £8 1965 copy of Dylan's "Bringing It All Home" and that unfortunately was a swing and a miss.

Lots of popping, constant hiss and a fair bit of skipping, but the owner was great and said "It's just me here and I can't listen to everything (as two big boxes of LPs were delivered!) so I just eyeball them and price accordingly". He was happy for me to bring it back if there were issues and he'd just send it off for a proper clean and let me pick something else.

After the issues with the Bob Dylan record, it was always a safe bet that a still-sealed 2018 pressing of a classic LP would be fine and it was. My dad introduced me to Blues in general and I remember him getting me a Howlin' Wolf Chess compilation on CD years and years ago, and then a great London Sessions double CD too.

I don't know how the shop I got this from makes money. I had been eyeing this up on Amazon for the same £14.99 I paid today. I said to the owner that his pricing was very keen and he just said "I price stuff to sell" and then talked about how the shop round the corner (that I also use) sells new limited edition stuff for £50+ and he just feels that it's wrong. I think I'm going to end up spending a lot of time in that shop.

In the half hour I was there, he had two large boxes of vinyl delivered and says that he gets several new deliveries in almost every day and it all shifts. Must be a high volume, low margin setup and I'm not complaining.
