I recently purchased an HRT Music Streamer II. Using my Compaq laptop to play music on my HI Fi, I have noticed a lot of background noise is created by the computer ( fan / hard disc rotation) Someone told me the new Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook was almost completely noiseless in this respect. Can anyone confirm this ? Has anybody else has similar noise problems?

My netbook fan does make noise but is only really noticable up close.

If their netbooks are anything like their other laptops then it may be very quiet. I have an old Dell X300 and it is practically silent.

Or just play the music loud enough so that it is not an issue

if you're really only interested in a netbook then ignore my post. but there's company (I think british) called Tranquil PC and they make HTPCs and home media servers.

their ixL is a HTPC which is passively cooled throughout (so no fans) and has solid aluminum casing. good specs too. and not a price tag of an apple products...

Have you considered a Mac Mini? Mine runs virtually silent and cool and takes up less space than a netbook!
