No TV audio from Sony STRA2400ES

My amp is connected to my TV via HDMI but when I select TV from the Amps GUI menu I get no picture or sound..

My blu-ray works fine so why not the TV ?

The HDMI from receiver to TV is only an output. To get TV sound through the receiver you need an additional audio connection from the TV to the receiver.

Depending on your TV this may either be an analogue audio pair, or a digital connection (usually optical).

You need 1 HDMI output to the TV from the amp. All the other HDMI inputs will feed through the 1 output, you just select which source you want to use from the amp's remote.

No, because there's no need to feed the video signal from the TV to the receiver, only in the other direction - ie from other sources such as Blu-ray Disc/DVD players or set-top boxes - through the receiver to the TV.

Indeed, if you have a set-top box such as Sky or Virgin, you arguably don't need the audio connection from TV back to the receiver, as you'll be taking broadcast TV from those boxes and not the TV's own tuner.

Should I be getting a video signal via the HDMI cable without sound ? as I'm not getting video either..
