Hi all,

Hope someone can help. Ive decided to take the plung and get a home cinema system.

I went for the yamaha 363 AR and the 110 speakers.

i have a samsung plasma with 3 hdmi connections.

ive plugge the sky box via scart to the telly. the AV to the telly using HDMI with the telly in the HDI out of the AVR.

i have a dvd to the AV using HDMI.

when i play a dvd, i get video and sound out the telly put nothing through the speakers, just static.

im confused as i thought the point of hdmi was to be able to get sound and audio through hdmi.

basically, i want to be able to play my dvd/cd and get sound through the speakers. i want the telly sound to come out throught the av and the speaker connected to the receiver.

any help is greatly appreciate as i am really keen to get this up and running - my kids are well disappointed.

thanks in advance.

AFAIK the Yamaha can't accept audio over HDMI. You need to connect a diigital audio cable - either optical or elecrical, depending on what your DVD player has in the way of outputs - between player and AV receiver to get sound.

The Philips also has an electrical digital output - connecr this to the DVD digital input on the receiver.

If you want sound from the TV connect the analogue outputs (if it's a standard Sky box) to one of the analogue inputs on the receiver, or the optical digital output (if it's a Sky+ or Sky HD box) to one of the optical digital inputs on the receiver.

If your TV has a built in freeview tuner, you can take sound from that to the receiver, too, so you can listen to the sound through the system when the Sky box is off.

The audio out on the TV may be a pair of analogue sockets, in which case you use a pair of analogue cables to the TV input on the Yamaha receiver, or an optical digital sockert, in which case you use an optical digital cable to one of the optical digital inputs on the Yamaha.
