I'm thinking of putting together a "good value" system around Samsung UE40D5520 and I was wondering which blue ray/home theatre would be best with it. Most of the time it would be for SD TV and DVDs (to be upscaled) but leading on to blue ray. I've heard that the speakers on flat screen are not good, so am interested in home cinema package or separates which work together and don't need a PhD to operate.

Over to you o wise and experienced ones! ;-)

THANKS!

Hello and welcome to the forum! I think the first question is 'what's your budget?'. There's a huge variety of choice out there, and something to suit most pockets. Also, are you okay with "normal" speakers (some people have a preference for smaller/stylish (but that means you either suffer a bit on quality, or pay more to get the same sound from smaller speakers).

Well this shows how newbie I am!

Budget - £700-£800 (including TV)

Room - about 24 sqm living room with bookshelves and big windows at one end - new TV probably to be wall mounted

Use - movies and general TV

I'm more into function than form and would also consider a soundbar-based or component-based solution - I know it may seem strange but voice is important especially in films

We also have a Humax PVR an old Panasonic video and a sat recevier for European (not HD) TV

Thanks

Went into Richer sounds and Superfi yesterday - probably the last time I'll go into Superfi though - no comparison as far as advice is concerned!

Package 1

Blu-ray Player
Sony BDPS185 TSP £79.95
Receiver
Sony STDRH520 TSP £149.95
6 Speaker Package
Yamaha NSP40 TSP £149.95

Package 2

Blu-ray Player
Sony BDPS185 TSP £79.95
Receiver
Sony STDRH520 TSP £149.95
6 Speaker Package
Yamaha NSP40 TSP £149.95

Package 3

ONKYO HTS3405

with PANASONIC DMPBDT110 (& Star Wars...) or Sony BDPS480 (& Harry Potter...)

Currently I'm thinking more interms of Package 3 with the ?better choice of Blue Ray player and the reciever and speakers from the same company so better balanced?! The 3405 also has Audyssey which pacakge 2 doesn't.

Any comments? Thanks for reading.
