Newbie HDMI 1.4 cable

Hi

Hope someone can answer what Im guessing is a fairly straightforward question. I am in the process of upgrading my 2 channel hi fi and want to incorporate a tv into the set up (lg pq 6000). I was planning to connect my ps3 via optical to the amp/dac and the same with tv. Came across the 1.4 HDMI cables with audio return - if I used one of these, can I then omit the optical cable from tv to amp?

Just thinking this prob means the ps3 will need to be on to watch normal tv? No good then?

I stand to be corrected on all of this I'm sure!

IIRC the TV is HD ready and the HDMI connections are not 1.4 compliant. so that cable would do nothing more than what any other would do.

it all becomes obvious now! I'll just stick to a optical cable as well then.
