Hi,

A two part question:

1. Would anybody be able to recommend a good amp/speaker (minus speaker cable) combo for £500?

and

2. Depending on answers would the forum members take the recommended set up over a Creek EVO mk1 / Epos M5i set up?

Many thanks,

Depends if you're talking new or used kit, scouting out special offers, etc. The second option could be good, but you'd need to have a listen and decide.

Oh, speaker cable. Don't go mad with it. You really don't need to spend a fortune. £5 a metre will be more than adequate and as likely as not substantially less will get you as good results. The main thing is to get some good single strand copper core and you system'll be fine. The other option is silver and that - apart from being more expensive - is typically a touch brighter.

What music do you generally listen to?

What is your room size?

Are you after all brand new or will you consider 2nd hand (i.e. more bang for your buck)?

Are you after standmount speakers (if so have you budgeted for speaker stands) or will you consider floorstanding speakers as well?

Yes the price is good and the combo has good synergy. You will get differing answers but i'd say for a monkey, no.

Thanks all for the replies.

Record Spot -I'm probably talking about buying new equipment as I have a limited amount of time to install the system.I wasn't planning on spending more than £5 a metre at most as I'm not really a believer in deluxe speaker cable .

Dan1979 - It's tricky to quantify my musical tastes, though as a rule I would say not too much classical. My room is about 13' x 20' and I have to go down the bookshelf route (wife insists).

Shooter69 - I thought that Creek/Epos deal was pretty good and on paper more like an £800 combo. I was really wondering if anything at £500 new could beat that.

Cheers.
