For me the new ones having never heard the old ones. 😉
 
The best sounding modern amps that I've heard all use NOS valves that are about 50 years old or more.
 
i think if you read certain hifi mags you.l find a lot of technology used today is based on or modified from years back. thers some cracking equipment about today but a lot of the older stuff still competes
